These microbes consume the organic substances in bagasse for growth. In an aerobic environment, generally within several months to one year (influenced by factors like temperature, humidity), bagasse's components like cellulose break down into carbon dioxide, water, and humus. In anaerobic conditions, for example, at the bottom of landfills, the degradation is slower but will eventually occur, generating methane (which can be collected) and stable organic residues.
